The Humanitarian Chronicle was created to fill a gap in the market. We saw that no site independent of specific humanitarian organizations on the internet was dedicated to sharing the news and stories of those who have devoted their lives to humanitarian work and also the stories of those who are directly impacted by that work. This site is dedicated solely to sharing humanitarian news and stories.
We established this site as a place where the stories of those engaged in humanitarian work could be placed before the world. We also decided that for their stories to truly be heard, it was best for them to do the writing. These stories are not written by journalists employed by us, they are first hand accounts of those engaged with humanitarian efforts on the ground. They are stories written by the very people dealing with the various humanitarian crisis’, emergencies and needs facing so many people around the world.
Through operating this site, we hope to achieve four things:
Inform
Through providing the world with these stories, we in turn provide information about humanitarian efforts being undertaken all around the globe. When a viewer leaves this site they should be better informed about humanitarian work than when they arrived.
Educate
The world can be a confusing place and humanitarian work can sometimes be hard to understand. Through providing first hand stories from humanitarian workers and those they work with, the reader faces the opportunity to grasp a little more education about the world in which they live and how good humanitarian work can make a difference where the view may otherwise seem bleak and hopeless. We also aim to educate people on how each of us can make a difference.
Inspire
Good, compassionate human stories are inherently inspirational. By engaging and encountering the very real human stories on this site, we hope to inspire and move readers towards pursuing the use of their own lives as tools to make a difference. Each of us has strengths and skills to offer the world around us. Hopefully these humanitarian stories will inspire each of us to utilize those strengths and skills to change the world for the better.
Encourage
This site allows humanitarian workers to share their news and stories. We also allow the reader the chance to engage the writer through discussion about the stories shared. Through such discussion we are able to express to those doing the work that they are not alone in what can often be extremely tough circumstances. Through this site we hope to encourage those engaged in humanitarian work by showing them they have a community behind them. If you comment on any stories, we ask you to keep this in mind.

Earlier this week I had the privilege of interviewing Paul Childers. Paul, along with Susanne (his wife), runs PhotogenX. The purpose of PhotogenX is to advocate for those who do not have a voice by using photography as a means to tell stories.
Susanne is mostly responsible for the photography. The imagery is absolutely stunning. If [...]
